Description

Defrosta® – Domestic Freeze-Resistant Additive for SCR Systems (Professional Use Only)

Defrosta® is a urea-based additive for urea-based nitrogen oxide reduction systems (SCR), manufactured in Ylöjärvi, Finland. The product is based on Kemira's patent and development work and is produced by Kemion (Bang & Bonsomer).

The purpose of Defrosta is to improve the freeze resistance and reliability of SCR systems in cold conditions, where conventional AdBlue can lead to malfunctions caused by freezing and crystallization.

Defrosta enhances the system’s performance at low temperatures down to approximately –30 °C and helps reduce wintertime malfunctions, operational interruptions, and the resulting maintenance and repair costs.

This product is intended for professional use only.

Features and Benefits

  • Domestic product, developed and manufactured in Finland
  • Improves SCR system reliability in low temperatures
  • Reduces the risk of freezing and crystallization during the winter season
  • Allows operation in temperatures as low as approximately –30 °C
  • Can be used as a blend with AdBlue
  • The same mass content of active ingredient (ammonia) as traditional urea-based products

🔎 Important information about using Defrosta
Defrosta is not AdBlue.
AdBlue is produced according to ISO 22241 standard (VDA) and has a freezing point of around –11 °C. Defrosta is a separate additive designed to improve the freeze resistance and usability of SCR systems in cold conditions.

Defrosta functions as a urea-based substance in SCR systems and can, if necessary, be used as a mixture with AdBlue. The mixing ratios shown in the table indicate technical freezing points and are not instructions for use.

⚠️ Factory Warranty Notice
Vehicle manufacturers’ factory warranties may become void if AdBlue is completely replaced with Defrosta or if fluids not approved by the manufacturer are used in the system.
Defrosta does not yet have official approval from vehicle manufacturers.

For this reason, Defrosta is primarily intended for professional use in fleets where reliability in demanding conditions is a critical factor, and usage decisions are made with the overall context in mind.

⚠️ Sensor Notice
Some vehicles have a sensor in the AdBlue tank that measures urea concentration. In these vehicles, using Defrosta may cause error messages because the mixture differs from standard AdBlue.
